Use the shape of the usage to find the cause
A flat load suggests always-on electronics or ventilation. Regular large spikes can point to water heating, pumps or refrigeration. A load that rises with outdoor temperature suggests heating or cooling.
- Download hourly or 15-minute data from your utility when available
- Record the lowest repeated overnight reading
- Switch off one safe circuit or plug-in group at a time

Reduce the base load safely
Adjust legitimate vacation settings, unplug nonessential plug-in devices and repair equipment that runs abnormally. Do not disable sump pumps, freeze protection, alarms, medical equipment or ventilation without understanding the risk.
